Sony CCD-TR940 analog Hi8 camcorder low light comparison

Outstanding quality from analog Hi8 XR tape! Bright, crisp, colorful, and detailed. A bit grainy, but you could soften the image in post-production. The built-in microphone has excellent stereo separation.

    This is about as …
    This is about as bright as the DCR-TRV103 I think. Very nice, since I have just very few light when I’m making my videos!
    I recently got a CCD-TRV77E camcorder, wich also has that nice bright picture. It’s very similar to the DCR-TRV103, but it’s analog Hi8 XR, just like this one. I just love that camcorder! I’ve used it for most of my recent rapair videos.

    @GanEdenAustralia …
    @GanEdenAustralia Yes, it is a single 1/4 inch CCD, just like the Sony Digital8 and MiniDV camcorders.

    I also have a Sony …
    I also have a Sony Hi-8 (CCD-TRV608), which I’ve used in some of my YouTube uploads. This captures dark images very well like your Sony (0 lux). I’ve looked into todays digital cameras that takes SD cards (particularly those under $900). So far, I didn’t find one that would have as much light sensitivity as my analog Hi-8. Which is why I may be using my Sony for quite a while when making videos in low-light environments. Also recently used the 16:9 widescreen mode.
