The only one would be a Mini-dv (tape based) its digital and requires no 3rd party conversion software.
Others such as Hard drive and flash based camera need software to convert them into a format that WMM will import, the problem is that if you convert the video (always better to edit the video in the original format) you will decrease the quality.
so answering you question any video (more or less) can be editied with WMM as long as you use the correct format.

just make sure Sony Camcorders format is compatible with the right format that Windows Movie Maker supports like avi/wmv/mpg.
or maybe you need one powerful video converter, i once met similar issue as this,finally i got it solved,just go get the iorgsoft video converter right now.
