@MacMike1000 Dont know about that. This one has built in memory and a slot for memory cards, and it’s smaller and lighter. But the Canon does have an external mic input, the Sony only has the shoe. I actually own an HF S100 (review coming soon).

Thx for the review, but I dont want 2 spend that much, can you help me out? I ‘m sure u can. $ 500 maybe $600 what is the next model down from that one ? I looked at the JVC HD 500 for $ 560 but a utube review was not happy, no extrnial mic and SI was not so great, mind u that was only one review but it scared me from buying it . The HDR-XR550E is …
The HDR-XR550E is able to record in 1080p, but the way the processor and sensor go about it are different from Canon, JVC & Panasonic.
The XR550 actually records video at 1080/60i, which is technically not real 1080p. However, it is able to playback the video in 1080/30p because the processor can render the 60i fps and de-interlace them into 30p fps.
The downside to this method is low light performance and the inability to record at 1080/30p or 1080/24p natively.
